The history of the Palace as a national museum, regularly open to the public, began in 1953, the year in which Palazzo Barberini became home to the National Gallery of Ancient Art along with Palazzo Corsini, which had been since 1895.. (art.13 European Regulation 2016/679). The redesign of the original structure was the work of the most renowned architects of the 17th century - Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Francesco Borromini. Since 1949, together with the Palazzo Corsini, the palace has been home to the National Gallery of Ancient Art, available with one entrance ticket.

Recently restored, the splendid Baroque palace Palazzo Barberini houses the treasures of the National Gallery of Ancient Art, a permanent collection of about 500 works in 34 rooms. Masterpieces by the great masters of Italian and foreign painting, including Raphael and Caravaggio, and 18th century works that had long been stored for lack of.. The National Galleries of Ancient Art are a single museum institution divided between Palazzo Barberini and Palazzo Corsini.
